Joseph Koetsier

Joseph Koetsier is a Dutch national (since 1946) who has lived in South Africa since 1994. He is a retired senior lecturer who taught and conducted research in cross-cultural educational development programmes at the University of Groningen, Netherlands (1978-1994), and at the University of the Western Cape, Bellville, South Africa (1994-2011). His main focus in Europe was on refugee groups in the Netherlands, India and Sri Lanka. He also conducted research in applied linguistics and sociolinguistics. Between 1981 and 1994, he was involved in project clusters in educational system development in Mozambique (Eduardo Mondlane University) and Suriname (Paramaribo, Anton de Kom University and the National Ministry of Education) in South America. In South Africa, he worked mainly as a lifelong learning specialist, supporting part-time programmes for after-hours adult students. Since his retirement in September 2011, he has become a published poet and a committee member of the Egyptian Society of South Africa (Tessa). His presentations for Tessa concentrate on the contributions of eastern European countries to Egyptology.
