Henque Heymans

Henque learnt his art in television under the tutelage of Franz Marx and Christo Compion, whereafter he entered film, writing scripts for shortfilms such as Emoticon (featuring Corine du Toit and Charles Bouguenon, 2011), which won a 48HFP best screenplay award, and more recently Transito (2015), directed by André Velts and screened at the 2016 Silwerskermfees. He has sold two full-feature screenplays and only recently broadened his art to the stage, penning works for high schools and drama groups, including Die kamer bo (2014), directed by Shareen Swart for PALI, performed by Malinda Brink. In 2016 Henque cofounded DEURnis, South Africa’s first site-specific one-on-one theatre production, for which he was nominated for a 2017 ATKV Woordveertjie award. Three of Henque’s DEURnis pieces will be playing at 2017 the Aardklop national arts festival. Henque also directed the critically acclaimed Koud (played by Ben Pienaar) under the Theatre Rocket umbrella.

Aardklop 2017: ’n onderhoud met Henque Heymans oor DEURnis

Liné Loff, Henque Heymans Aardklop 2017-08-29

"Anders as ander teaterervarings, waar jy gemaklik verlore raak in die gehoor en absolute anonimiteit geniet, word jy hier ’n karakter. Sonder om ’n woord te uiter besef jy wie jy as gehoor 'speel' en bevind jy jou in iemand anders se skoene."
