Heckroodt Laubscher qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon in 2007 after obtaining an MMED degree from the University of Pretoria and successfully completing his examinations for the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in Orthopaedic Surgery in May 2007.
He then travelled to Rennes, France to complete a four-month shoulder fellowship. During this time he had the opportunity to visit numerous well-respected shoulder surgeons in France.
Laubscher undertook a shoulder fellowship within a shoulder-oriented community in France, which is at the forefront of research, the advancement of surgical techniques and product development in the field of shoulder surgery.
Since his return from France in early 2008, Laubscher has worked exclusively in the field of shoulder surgery. He has also had the opportunity to work with and learn from various well-respected shoulder surgeons in South Africa.
Laubscher regularly publishes articles in the South African Orthopaedic Journal and has on two occasions provided an expert opinion. He has presented papers related to shoulder surgery at the South African Orthopaedic Association conferences. He regularly gives talks to general practitioners on topics related to shoulder conditions and surgery and regularly conducts workshops for physiotherapists and other professionals.
Laubscher is a member of the South African Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons' Society and actively participates in meetings of the Gauteng Shoulder Surgeons interest group.
Laubscher is based in Johannesburg at The Centre for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics and operates at the Netcare Rosebank Clinic.
