Elizabeth Trew

I returned to South Africa in 1991 after decades in exile. I began writing poems in my 40s in London (after being moved by a book of Neruda’s poems I found while living in a rented house).

I have poems published in Botsotso, Carapace, EAR, New Coin, New Contrast and Scrutiny2. Some have been publishedin The Rialto and Camden Voices in England. A selection of my poetry is in ISISx(Botsotso, 2005).

My background has been in education and I currently teach English language at Wits. I am a gender activist and a volunteer clinical counsellor at People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), and coordinate the judging of POWA’s Women’s Writing competition.
