NB Publishers is pleased to announce the appointment of James Woodhouse as Publisher of Kwela Books, effective from 1 April 2012.
James has worked in the publishing industry in a variety of editorial roles over the past nine years. He began his career as a fiction editor at Kwela in 2003, subsequently worked as freelance editor, and most recently as a commissioning editor for Penguin South Africa. He is also known to the book trade through his involvement with the Franschhoek Literary Festival.
James has a special talent for spotting and developing new, talented authors, which, coupled with his experience at Kwela and Penguin and his wide knowledge of the local book trade, makes him the ideal person to take over from Nèlleke de Jager.
Nèlleke de Jager is, after seven years at the helm of Kwela, moving on to become the first digital publisher for NB Publishers. Over the past seven years, Nèlleke has succeeded in establishing Kwela as one of the most important publishers of local English fiction. She developed and published the work of several new local authors, with many of them also being published in translation by overseas publishers. During her time as publisher, various Kwela authors have become either bestsellers or have won numerous awards – including the Sunday Times Fiction Award, the M-Net Film Award and the Herman Charles Bosman Award.
NB welcomes James back within the group, and wish both him and Nèlleke great success in their respective new roles.
