Stand up comedienne, Angel Campey's first one woman show, Yes, Really Angel, directed by comedy legend, Nik Rabinowitz, is headed to Joburg for three nights only, from 7 to 9 November 2013. From a sold out preview night in Cape Town, it received rave reviews at it's debut run at the recent National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
Yes, Really Angel is the intelligent and hilarious look into the mind of one of the few female comedians in South Africa.
Relatively new on the South African comedy scene, Angel has risen to success with appearances on some of SA's best known stages and festivals including multiple performances with Comedy Central's Kings and Queens of Comedy, Supporting act at Parker's (after making the finals in the Nando's comedy showdown) she opened the Vodacom Funny Festival 2012, a hugely popular performance at the prestigious Tedx Cape Town and has found uncompromised success performing in front of her own bathroom mirror.
Nik Rabinowitz saw Angel perform at a charity event that they were both booked on in 2012 and saw her potential. A couple of months later he offered to don a directorial hat (his first time) to direct Yes Really Angel, which is produced by South African race comedy star, Siv Ngesi, star of best selling shows Race Card and Dekaf.
Angel was born in Durban, raised in Plettenberg bay, Johannesburg and Somerset West - she spent a year in New York City after school, studied Film and Media at UCT and then spent 2 years backpacking Asia and teaching English in Korea before returning home to take the comedy mic and regale audiences with her musings and life stories - growing up with the real name of 'Angel' has left her with plenty of fodder.
Angel's comedy covers a diverse spectrum from the views of a young, white South African. Everything from racist grannies to zombie’s apocalypse, guardian angels and Korean children. She believes in pushing people to think about topics that they otherwise might not feel comfortable with, through laughter.
