"The day after" by Mathew James

  • 0

The scorched earth beneath your feet
Flowers nothing more than the dust filling the air
The life that was here before is nothing but a memory
Families and lovers wiped away in an instant
Called away for a higher purpose

The greatest day the earth has seen in its existence
Yet the deepest fear was felt on this day
Hold the earth in your hand feel the heartache caused this day
Tears that darkened the soil still visible
All religions but one proven wrong this day

No one was ready after all
Houses stand abandoned as nature begins its course
The air hangs low and thick on this land
It’s as though you still feel them here with you
Like a heartbeat not belonging to you

What will happen to this place
The testing ground has served its purpose
The victors celebrate this night forever
And all else will experience a hurting like no other
For the rest of eternity
