"Proud" by Cynthia Williams

From the get go
I always thought I was a good person
Then I let go
No longer so overwhelmingly guarded
And it turned so that I needed no explanation
And, every day for me was a vacation
Then the word life
Came about and visualized
Damn it was
Everything opposite, to my surprise
I understand why
Every jailbird will tell you freedom comes at a price
Why everything I held so close to me was a lie

With desperation arising
You fail to think twice and you slowly diminish
You carved this path but you just don’t know how
And the last thing you are is proud

Talk to me
See I know my rock bottom
Didn’t eat for weeks
But that was the least of my problems
Best believe
I could not believe
I cried out no one was hearing me
I confess the last thing you have is your pride
Was stupid enough not to leave it aside

With desperation arising
You failed to think twice and you slowly diminish
You carved this path but you don’t know how
And the last thing you are is proud

They move away from you
Like they don’t know you
Then they move close to you
When something you proud of comes close to you
