"Christmas at last" by Paul Hartley

  • 0

The shadows creep across the floor
The street lights burn, I close the door
Warm and safe in my abode
While outside winter burns with frigid cold

People scurry to and fro
Shrouded in hat and scarf and cloak
I rise to draw the drapes on night
And dally to watch the lights burn bright

Reds and blues and yellows burn
Fairy lights flicker at every turn
I ponder briefly on the year now past
And smile that Christmas is here at last

That wonderful day will soon be here
To unite all families and bring good cheer
Children laugh and adults smile
At this time of year, we reflect a while

We must only dwell on good, not bad
And share with others what we have
Another year draws to a close
So be happy with the life you chose
