“The day will come when history will speak…Africa will write its own history…it will be a history of glory and dignity”- Patrice Lumumba

Verse 1:
When I look at the state of our continent I realise I’m not content.
We blamed our misery on the white man’s greed, now we ruled by black men but we still in need
So what’s the problem or wait are we the problem?
Were they right all along, that everything about being black is wrong?
Are we the wretched of the Earth meant to burn in the eternal hearth?
The offspring of Ham, or should I find refuge in the bible say it’s all part of God’s plan
Oh wait my apology, I forgot that too can be another racist ideology
Another lie told to justify white supremacy
But wait, I’m going off topic
This rap is meant to empower people of colour and prove that our leader is a liar
Can’t depend on the government to make us feel relevant
Gotta put down our tools and demand better schools
My people need quality education then only can there be true emancipation

Hook:
Black man you’re on your own, black man you’re on your own
Aspire towards success, don’t regress till you posses

Verse 2:
94 came and will no doubt be indelibly engraved upon my heart.
The victory was ours, this emancipation would give us a fresh start
But some got it and others didn’t
Politicians forgot about the masses only worried about foreign investors
Imperialists who’ll plunder and leave the native(s) under.
Neo-colonialism, Nkrumah explained it, politically free but economically we still bound in chains.
My President think twice before you accept that foreign aid
We fought racism, we overcame.
Now it’s time to fight capitalism ‘cause it’s all the same
We need to rally against the cause of our oppression
Incompetent black government we need to look at politics in a new dimension

Hook:
Black man you’re on your own, black man you’re on your own
Aspire towards success, don’t regress till you posses

Verse 3:
Lumumba, Biko, Nkrumah, Singhor. Had they never died black man would you still be on your own?
Or would you have found a way to move forward as an entire race.
Without subjecting another race to the level of a lower caste
As I write, can’t help but feel helpless cause even if they play this my people may not listen
So many are stuck getting drunk and not giving a damn
Take control of your life, don’t be the one getting punked
Please I appeal to your ears, please abolish all your fears
If you can’t fight for yourself then at least fight for your kids
‘Cause you’re beautiful, strong, incredible.
There’s no reason why you should spend your life dying in the rubble.

Hook:
Black man you’re on your own, black man you’re on your own
Aspire towards success, don’t regress till you posses
