Sanlam Sing 'it finalist interview: Matt Rose

  • 0

Hey, Matt! Congrats on being one of the Sanlam Sing ‘it finalists! How long have you been writing lyrics?

I have always been interested in poetry and used to write rap / hip hop lyrics for Hype magazine a few years ago!

How do you feel about the fact that Tumi and the Volume recorded your song?

I feel so amazing that my entry resonated with them. I’m a huge fan of Tumi! I hope that they can craft the song into something really special. They rock!

Why do you think your entry stood out?

I think my entry stood out because it was really offbeat and bizarre. I was trying to say something that would be unexpected and unpredictable.

Interpretation is mostly an open-ended affair. What is the song about for you, though?

Being in love, or experiencing "that kiss", can turn our worlds upside down. The basic message is that it doesn't matter where a kiss takes place, if it’s meaningful everything else falls away.

Where and how did you write the song?

I wrote it at my house while I was thinking about a special girl that I’ve shared many beautiful kisses with.

Vote for Matt and Tumi and the Volume's song here.
