I’ve always had a knack for writing. I was influenced by my eldest sister who would recite poetry to me as a child. As an adult, poetry is something that I rely on to express myself. In the whirlwind of life and my intrusive thoughts, writing provides an outlet, a cathartic release. As a third-year BA student at the University of the Western Cape, I was exposed to various authors and poets (especially in the Afrikaans and Dutch department). This has enabled me to write with confidence and to express myself in ways I never thought possible. 

I hope to continue my writing career and maybe one day complete my own book of poetry like my heroes, Elsa Joubert, Adam Small and Antjie Krog, and so many others.
