Stefan van der Westhuizen

Stefan van der Westhuizen is a final-year medical student at the University of the Free State. In 2015 he was elected to the SRC as custodian of the arts and culture portfolio. This enabled him to be directly involved in various cultural organisations and platforms, including the Kovsie Buddhist Association, which he founded. He is currently the chairperson of the UFS Surgical Society and focused on student development of designated groups in the Health Sciences faculty.

This previous runner-up Dux student has been involved in various leadership developmental programmes, which have included exchanges to Stanford University and the International Christian University in Tokyo. He was a recipient of the Abe Bailey Travel Bursary in 2015. Stefan has a deep love for art, language, music and activism.
