Raphael d’Abdon is a writer, scholar, editor and translator. He holds a PhD in linguistics and literary studies from the University of Udine (Italy) and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the English Studies Department of Unisa. D’Abdon has read his poetry in Italy, Nigeria, South Africa and the United States, where he chaired a session on “Spoken word and literature” at the 2011 Chinua Achebe Colloquium, a conference that hosted poets such as Jayne Cortez, Sonia Sanchez, Yusef Komunyakaa and Achebe himself. In 2013 he compiled and edited the collection Marikana. A Moment in Time (Geko Publishing) and published his debut poetry collection Sunnyside Nightwalk (Geko). He was also one of the featured poets at the 2013 Poetry Africa Festival. With Natalia Molebatsi and Myesha Jenkins he has co-edited the first anthology of South African erotic poetry, which will be published in 2014 by Cassava Republic Press. He lives in Tshwane with his wife, daughter and cat. He is a vegetarian and his hero is Prince.
