Phelelani Makhanya is a poet born in Stanger, KwaZulu-Natal. He is a co-founder of Bare Thoughts poetry society based at the University of Zululand. His poetry has appeared in several South African journals. He has performed at the 2011 Poetry Africa International Festival of Poetry and has shared the stage with prominent poets like Joshua Bennett, Myesha Jenkins, Gabeba Baderoon and Sandile Dikeni, among others.
