Biography: Dr Nomfundo Mali
Nomfundo Mali was born in Libode, eMarewini but the late Mvuyiswa Jali, married to Lindile Mali. Currently a Provincial Manager of the Western Cape, in the Pan South African Language Board. She previously lectured at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in the department of Education as a teacher trainer and a developer of isiXhosa modules and learning and teaching material for student teachers. She has lectured at the University of Stellenbosch’s Departments of African Languages. She has served in the Western Cape Language Committee as the deputy chairperson for 3 years and an ex officio member till to date. She has served in the Cultural Affairs and Sport Ministerial annual awards selection panel for 4 years. She holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diplomas and certificates from the Walter Sisulu University of Technology, University of Stellenbosch and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She holds a Doctor of Literature in Language Teaching and Literacy. Nomfundo was previously attached to the University of Stellenbosch Diversity unit on advisory capacity. She has presented papers at various regional, provincial, national and international conferences. She is currently involved in language policy development forum for municipalities in the Western Cape. She has reviewed a number of both IsiXhosa and English books which have been published by the Center for the Book in collaboration with other publishers. She is one of the founder members and the chairperson of the XhosAfrika Network.
