Marian Lewin

Marian Lewin is a gifted musician WHO has long been known as the doyenne of cellists in this country.  Ms Lewin started playing the cello at the age of five with her aunt, Betty Pack, and achieved great success in various musical festivals.

In 1963 she won the UNISA Overseas Scholarship and in 1964 was appointed acting cellist to the SABC Orchestra.  Three years later she was judged the best cellist during an International Cello Week in Amsterdam, resulting in an appearance in Eurovision.

Ms Lewin is an experienced broadcaster, having appeared as soloist with the SABC Orchestra, the PACT Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.  She also held the post of principal cellist in the PACT Orchestra and the NSO for the past 20 years.

An accomplished chamber musician, Ms Lewin is a long-time member of  the Alma Music Trio and performs regularly with several other chamber music ensembles.
