Kole Omotoso

Kole Omotoso, Nigerian novelist, playwright and critic, was born in Akure, Nigeria, and studied in Ibadan and in Edinburgh, where he gained a PhD.

He has been actively involved in African writers' organisations and has taught extensively at universities in Nigeria and South Africa. His substantial body of work includes several novels, a number of plays, and books and articles on political and social issues.

Together with Femi Osofisan, Biodun Jeyifo, and Niyi Osundare, Omotoso belongs to a group of writers who have been critical of the first-generation African writers: Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Christopher Okigbo, and others. Omotoso has experimented widely with literary styles and techniques to achieve his aim of reaching ordinary African people.

He is the well-known face of the popular Vodacom television advertisements, and has immortalised the line "Yebo Gogo!"
