Sing ’it notches up massive number of downloads!

In just under three weeks the nine Sing ’it songs have been downloaded more than 8 000 times, with Dans Dans Lisa the current frontrunner.

Bouwer Bosch from Dans Dans Lisa has responded with great enthusiasm to this news, saying that they really want to win the music video.

“We’re very pleased to hear that we’re ahead on the number of downloads. A year ago we gave our whole album away free, so I think our supporters already knew how to download. Those that have downloaded the song like it a lot and it also goes down very well live! If we win the video, we want to do something that’s never been done before. We want to do something that will get people talking.”

Pierre Smith, who wrote the lyrics, supports his band all the way.

“The first time I heard ’Die ouer ek’ I reckoned, this is going to be a hit – and here we have it – it’s the song that’s leading the competition. It all still feels rather like a dream … unreal … from hearing it on the radio to how people are commenting on Facebook. It’s really nice to be able to colab with a cool band like Dans Dans Lisa.”

Smith is one of nine talented songwriters who made it through to the Sanlam/LitNet Sing ’it competition, and all the lyricists are urging the public to download their songs in a bid to win the chance of having their song produced as a music video hit by one of South Africa’s top bands or musicians.

In September last year Sanlam, in collaboration with LitNet, MK (DStv channel 324) and nine of our country’s top singers and bands, launched the Sing ‘it competition, inviting South Africans countrywide to put their songwriting skills to the test.

After sifting through more than 1 600 entries Bittereinder, Dance You’re on Fire, Dans Dans Lisa, DJ Cleo, HHP, iScream & the Chocolate Stix, Jax Panik, Karen Zoid and Niskerone & SFR chose their favourite lyrics and have since produced songs from them.

“But now it’s up to the public to choose the top song that will be produced as a music video,” says Andre Kearns, sponsorship manager at Sanlam.

The song downloaded the most by 20 March via www.singit.co.za website will be the ultimate winning song.

Sing ’it embodies Sanlam’s corporate message of ‘Start with what you hope for’ and ties in with National Start Something Day, which inspires ordinary people to take up something that they’ve always wanted to do – whether it’s learning a new language or starting to write songs, as in this case.”

He adds that Sanlam has always been a big supporter of local culture. “Our aim is to help create a platform for local talent to be showcased. Other cultural sponsorships by Sanlam include Sanlam radio dramas, Woordfees, Sanlam Prize for Youth Literature and Food, Wine and Design,” he says.

Sing ’it bereik rekordgetal downloads!
