JAZZ ON VIBRAPHONE OVER THE LUNCH HOUR

The next lunch hour concert at Unisa features the jazz artist Ngwako Manamela and friends on vibraphone. It takes place on Friday 3 October 2014 at 13:00 in the Miriam Makeba Concert Hall.

Ngwako Manamela is an artist who needs no introduction among big jazz artists. He is considered by many artists as the best vibraphone and marimba instruments player in South Africa. He started playing more than 30 years ago when he was in his early twenties.

He has a band called African Jazz Moods which he formed in 1990 and currently leads. He has played with giants like Hugh Masekela, Zim Nqawana, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, Moss Mogale, Khaya Mahlangu and Moses Khumalo.

Apart from his performing career, he is highly regarded as a teacher and has collaborated with the Community Music Development Projects of the Unisa Music Foundation to provide students with marimbas.

He will be joined on stage by Ntokoza Skosana on keyboard, Viwe Mkhizwane on bass and Tshepo Mathe on drums.

The hall is located on the Unisa Muckleneuk campus. Entry is free.
