Tania van Schalkwyk
Tania van Schalkwyk is the cross-continental spawn of a Hamburg sailor boy and an Indian Ocean mermaid. Born in Africa. Raised in Arabia. Uneducated in America. Currently lost in Words. Sometimes she publishes, exhibits, broadcasts or performs those words.
Recent and upcoming publications include literary magazines – in the UK: South, Orbis, IQ, Decode, Citizen 32 and Agenda; in South Africa: Dye Hard Press’s Green Dragon 2005 and 2006, Laugh it Off Annual 2006, and Ons Klyntji; and online: Triplopia, Unlikely 2.0 & MAG.
Her work is available on CD (Decode, UK) and DVD (Aune Head Arts - Focus on Farmers: Frenchbeer, in collaboration with Gregg Wagstaff, UK). Myopia, a commissioned script for a UK short film directed by Kirsty Waterworth, is currently in post-production phase.
Tania also compiles and edits the TripPicks column for Triplopia and once upon a wonder-full time wrote food reviews for Venue magazine (Bristol, UK). But her favourite places to leave words are public toilets, rubbish bins, mountaintops and under rocks.
