Silke Heiss
Silke Heiss was born in Berlin in 1965 and has lived in South Africa since 1971. She grew up in Pretoria and did tertiary studies in Johannesburg. She has MAs in Comparative Literature (Wits, with distinction) and Creative Writing (UCT). She has earned her living writing educational materials, mothering and chauffeuring rich kids, interning with the Western Cape Oral History Project, and exhibiting and selling her art (ceramic figures and forms). She has published poems and short stories and is currently working on her second novel with the financial assistance of the SA National Arts Council. She lives in Simonstown with creative writing tutor and poet Paul Mason, their eight-year-old son, plus cat; as well as penguins, otters, herons and buzzards.
