Piet Oosthuizen is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch. He studied medicine at the UFS where he completed his MBChB in 1988. In 1991 he moved to Cape Town where he started specializing in psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch. He completed his training as a psychiatrist in 1994. In 1995 he worked as a consultant psychiatrist in Australia, but returned to SA in 1996 to work in private practice in Durbanville. In 1999 he accepted a position as lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch and became Associate Professor in 2003. His main clinical and research interests are in Mood Disorders and Schizophrenia. He is the author of Ontsnap van depressie (Tafelberg).
