Peter Lor

Professor Peter Lor was Director of the State Library, after which he became the National Librarian and chief executive officer of the National Library of South Africa (NLSA), which was formed in November 1999 by the amalgamation of the State Library with the South African Library. He retired from this position in October 2003. On 15 February 2005 he assumed duty as the Secretary General of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and he is now based at IFLA's headquarters in The Hague, The Netherlands. His current research focuses on national library and information policy issues, international dimensions of library and information science, and information relations between developed and developing countries.
