Melodie Gray
I am a structural detailer, wife of a brilliant scientist and mother of a beautiful daughter. I was born in Johannesburg on 4 July 1961. I started writing at the age of 13 in order to make sense of a hostile world which rendered me speechless. Thus started a lifelong existential journey of reflection. The silent world of words on paper became my refuge, my voice. At times I thought it to be a curse, my being perpetuated as an outsider. Writers are isolated and at the mercy of pure abstraction within the bounds of language, yet are never free from the scrutiny of others. Poetry is not art; it is an accident of thought where words collide.
