
Mthunzikazi Mbungwana
A social commentator, cultural activist, sharer, poet and writer, that is what defines “Mthunzi “as she is affectionately know by those who are in her circle. She writes poetry and short stories. She is a member of an arts and culture movement in Tshwane known as Uhuru Wamaisha (the freedom of life) and she recites her poetry in sessions around Gauteng. She has played a leading role in a play (women only called amanina) that was staged in Grahamstown Arts festival 2005.
She has been invited to recite her poetry in the Lillian Ngoyi Lecture commemorating the fifty years of 1956 women’s march to the Union buildings which took place at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in August 2006, and at the book launch of Dr Riberio (the late political stalwart), to mention a few. One of her poems "Realisation session" was published by the Sunday World in 2005. She was named one of the top five winners of the express yourself poetry competition organised by SA FM in March 2007.
She studied Public Relations and at present works as a Communications Trainee at the Department of Transport. This woman from the Transkei (Eastern Cape) has been working on her poetry anthology for the past two years and will submit to publish when the Divine energies and her inner soul tells her it’s the right time to deliver the message to the masses. She is also teaching herself how to play indigenous musical instruments with the help of women in Transkei, where she always visits to witness traditional ceremonies and to be in touch with her roots and gather spiritual guidance and energy she needs for her performances.
