Award-winning cellist Anichenko returns to UNISA

The winner of the 5th Unisa International String Competition, cellist Georgi Anichenko, returns to South Africa this October on another concert tour.

He will perform with pianist Anastasya Terenkova on Saturday 18 October at 18:00 in the Enoch Sontonga Hall at Unisa.

Georgi was born in Belarus and began playing the cello at the age of five at the State Music College in Minsk.

Aged only 15, he was accepted at the Paris National Superior Conservatory where he continued to study. In Paris he studied, among others, with Jérôme Pernoo, who also has ties with Unisa: Pernoo was the winner of the 3rd Unisa International String Competition in 1996 and a regular artist at the music concerts of the Unisa Music Foundation.

Georgi is currently principal cellist of the resident orchestra of Valencia’s opera house in Spain.

His accompanist,  Anastasya Terenkova, is a talented Russian pianist who also studied at the Paris National Superior Conservatory.

The programme consists of the Fantasy pieces by Schumann and two sonatas for cello and piano, the popular Op 69 by Beethoven and Grieg’s cello sonata.

Tickets are sold at the door only for R95 (adults) and R75 (students and pensioners).
